Kerry rally car makes its London West End debut – sort off!

A car with strong connections with Kerry Motor Club is taking centre stage at the London Classic Car Show and Historic Motorsport International exhibition this weekend.

The London Irish Motor Club is displaying at the dual show at London’s ExCeL and pride of place on the club stand is a Ford Escort Mk1 Historic Rally car owned by Listowel man Ray Hilliard.

The car last competed on the 2012 Killarney Historic Rally with Senan Raggett as the co-driver.

Hillard is currently restoring the car to its former glory.

It is on show in the motorsport section of the three-day show which opened on Thursday night where is rubbed shoulder with famous racing cars including Michael Schumacher’s 1993 Benetton Formula One car and a host of rare Group B rally cars like Metro 6R4s

Members of London Irish Motor Club are at the show to promote the club, of which Hilliard is a member, and to showcase Irish and Belgian rallying to the thousands of visitors expected over the four days.

The shows runs from Thursday night until Sunday evening while the London Motor Cycle show takes place in adjoining halls over the weekend.

The next big event for Kerry Motor Club is the April 8 Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally.
