Local rally family John and John Joe Daly are the first team to place an entry for this year’s Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally.
Kerry Motor Club’s flagship event runs on April 7th. The rally is a counting round of the locally sponsored Top Part West Coast Rally Championship and the Moriarty’s Centra Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship.
The Listowel-based father and son team have been rallying together for close on 20 years. Last year they had the unique distinction of being the first crew to register for the new for 2018 Kingdom of Kerry Championship when they drove a Ford Focus on the Tralee-based rally. This season they will field a newly built Ford Escort Mk2.
John said: “The Circuit of Kerry was one of the first rallies I ever did when I started rallying. We want to support the local rallies this year, and I wanted to commit early to the Circuit of Kerry. We will also enter the Rally of the Lakes as we are registering for The Kingdom of Kerry Championship again.”
The 43rd edition of the rally will feature roads in the North Kerry area made famous by the old Circuit of Ireland Rally when it used to visit the county up to the early 1980s. Stages that featured on the Easter Monday run, from Killarney back to Belfast will form the backbone of this year’s route.
Kerry Motor Club with the help of Norma Foley, Mayor of Kerry and Aidan Kelly, President of the Tralee Chamber of Alliance, among other guests, launched this year’s flagship rally yesterday at the Rose Hotel.
